Isabelle Scurry

Looking at this work made me think about the sacred space that I would like to experience and show in my own work. Her work resonated with my own personal battle with what I should see as sacred in my life and what I was brought up to believe as essentially sacred. I love the way she depicts the front entrance of buildings as the focal point of her work. She literally invites you in, and what you feel when you come out largely depends on how much of you went inside. I guess whatever we take from any piece of art, largely depends on our willingness to step inside.

wow would be the appropriate word. See more of her mesmerising work here

Butterfly Paintings

I love these butterfly paintings, discovered on Alex Remys art blog. They were made by L.Filipe dos Santos It made me think about school art projects like tea staining, blowing paint through a straw, tie dye and tea stained paper. The idea behind these paintings are fantastic because he recycles a classic classroom activity and gives it a contemporary edge. Love it

You are what is most beautiful about me

Del Kathryn Barton wins the 2008 Archibald Prize for this piece. It depicts Barton with her young son and daughter. I love it, magical, mystical and so expressive of a mothers love for her children. The combination of modern decorative techniques with a traditional figurative style is masterful. Love love love..

Bang Bang, he shot me down

Photograph by Hayley Newman. It could be a still from a movie or real life. Has she just had an argument with her father? Or did she just see an ex lover with a new woman? Is she still in love with him? Has she just given up on trying to pull herself together? On trains you can see how much of a bad or good day a person has had by the look on their faces. Public transport is a public stage for feelings, and it is the ultimate act of breaking down because you know you will attract an audience who will be fascinated by it.

Gonna have a blogging break for a few days. My darling sister's coming over from London for a well overdue visit. I had a bit of a creative breakdown yesterday, just too many self doubts. Sad songs and sad films were probably the culprits.
Will set up my own website soon, with all my poetry and paintings. My sister's a web designer so she should get me started on it. I haven't told her yet though. I'm sure she will love me for it.

tender words

Beautiful pieces by Faryn Davies. She uses found objects and texts which are set in resin. This is the kind of work that keeps me going with my own especially on nights like these, when I feel like I am going nowhere with it.

I have to get out of this artistic wasteland and do something in my little studio NOW! Art can be inspired by life but it can also be put to one side by it too. The latter heavily applies to me. Teaching, and saving money bY having lunch at home rather than going out, organising my finances has all left me feeling a little out of sync with my creative efforts.
I need to paint! will squeeze in a visit to my local artshop and get a lovely blank canvas. That should get me going again.
In the meantime i thought i would share the insanely creative antics of Suziblu. Shes an artist who posts videoblogs on youtube of all her artjournals. Shes a little kooky but i couldnt help admiring her for her self confidence and commitment towards creating things.

Busy doing everything but painting....

I haven't been particularly inspired recently. My oil paints and brushes look very sad and lonely these days. I'm still keen on exploring the circus/blokes wearing lipstick theme, not sure why but I feel very drawn towards the art of masquerade.
In the meantime, heres a moment of visual inspiration by Tacita Dean. The idea and execution drew me in completely. Still no clue about this linking business but will get on to it when I can....Go to www.moma.org to find out more about her.

Harlequim seated in a cafe

An early self portrait by Pablo Picasso. When we spend so much time wearing all sorts of social masks, its a relief to sit down and have only your thoughts to keep you company. Despite never quite knowing how to leave those masks behind.

Fdlm Priority Box project

i recieved a package containing peace yesterday :) Its an interesting idea created by the artist Franck De las Mercedes. He creates the boxes himself painting them and filling them with a variety of things such as peace, love and hope. All you need to do is go to his website www.fdlmstudio.com where you can find out about this great project as well as his great artwork.
p.s I have no clue on all this linking business and clicking on names for another page blah blah blah... will get round to figuring it out oneday...
In the meantime..Peace to all you people out there reading my blog. (even though its only about 12 not including my boyfriend..lol)

Amrita Sher Gil

I wish I had seen the exhibition at the Tate of the Indian artist Amrita Sher Gil. Her work is simply beautiful and as a British born South Asian, Im drawn to her rich cultural identity and its effect on her work. Take a look at past exhibitions on the Tate Modern website for a chance to see some of her paintings.
